“Money has always been a particular problem for revolutionaries and anti-capitalists. What will money look like 'after the revolution'? How will it function? Will it exist at all? It's hard to answer the question if you don't know what money actually is.”
D. Graeber
In this Money Mingle, we’ll explore the history of money, debunk some common economic myths, and develop an understanding of the central dynamics of our current monetary system. From this ground, what shape(s) might an economy grow into that is not centred around growth, but the thriving of all life? Colleen will guide us in taking a stab at addressing David Graeber’s prompt.
C olleen Schneider is a PhD candidate in Ecological Economics at the Vienna University of Economics and Business (WU), with a research focus on the political economy of monetary and fiscal policy. Her work bridges the frameworks of degrowth and MMT, exploring pathways for macroeconomic stability in a post-growth transition. Colleen teaches courses at WU in social-ecological economics and facilitates the course ‘Foundations of Real World Economics’ for the Graduate Studies in the Economics of Sustainability at Torrens University.
